Office Space is an amazingly funny movie about the monotony that is working in a cubicle. I happened to see it on direct tv satellite the other day and remembered just how funny this movie really is. The main character is Peter, an unmotivated, underpaid average joe, who also happens to have a girlfriend who is cheating on him. One day he is coaxed into visiting an occupational hypnotherapist and it just so happens that the therapist dies while he is under hypnosis. As Peter soon notices, all of his motivation to go into work has left his body completely. After missing several days of work, Peter strolls in wearing his Saturday attire and is informed he has a meeting with the two main bosses who will be firing people soon. Casually Peter sits down with the bosses and explains he doesn’t much care for the job anymore. In a humorous way that only Mike Judge (writer director) can pull of, the bosses convince Peter to accept stock in the company and a major pay increase. Meanwhile the rest of the company is worried about losing their job. Peter soon finds himself single and begins to pursue a waitress at a local restaurant where he used to get coffee during work. Love blossoms and Peter and two of his less fortunate co-workers, who are going to be fired, hatch a scheme to steal money from the company before the two are fired. Constant laughs and completely unbelievable humor fill this movie and make it one of the best comedies of all time. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who has worked an honest days work in their life. I also recommend it to anybody who hasn’t. You will not be disappointed with Office Space.
